Breaking: Columbia president considers tuition increase, floats idea of alumni access to campus

Asked at the Student Government Association’s “Hi-Tea” event on Tuesday night, Oct. 21 if tuition would increase, President and CEO Shantay Bolton said she’d announce a decision in the coming weeks. She also told students she is exploring a pilot program to let alumni use Columbia’s print labs and studios during the summer, part of her push to strengthen ties with graduates.

Breaking: Columbia lays off 20 more full-time faculty in surprise summer round of cuts

The faculty members, who were already assigned fall courses, were summoned to brief virtual meetings and told their positions were eliminated on Tuesday, June 17. The layoffs are the second round this year in an ongoing effort to address the school’s budget deficit. In January, 23 full-time faculty were told they would lose their jobs at the end of the spring semester.
