Welcome to the Three C’s with the Columbia Chronicle, your go to source for the top three things every Columbia College student, faculty and staff member needs to know.
00:15
This week, we are here to bring you credible information about our campus and provide the clarity you need on issues that matter most.
00:25
I’m your host. Greer Stewart.
00:27
This week, we’re talking about campus commuters, Glean, a web based AI replacing peer note takers and the School of Visual Arts pancake breakfast
00:42
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion recently hosted a commuter meet and greet. The event gave commuter students a chance to meet peers and create a community with other commuter students on campus.
00:54
Food and games were offered along with a chance for students to connect and explore the campus.
01:02
The Services for Students with Disabilities recently introduced a web based AI software to replace note taking peers.
01:10
Glean allows students to record, annotate and use live captioning to provide summarized transcripts from lectures.
01:19
Some students have welcomed the new system due to shortages in peer note taker support many previous note takers and students who use these services show concern for the lack of intention and quality of the new accommodation.
01:36
After an alleged AI image began circulating promoting A pancake breakfast hosted by the School of Visual Arts, many posters around campus slowly disappeared as a soft boycott against the event.
01:48
Illustration major Luzaurora Mendoza expressed that a formal apology from faculty would ease pressure from student concern.
01:56
The event is still neutral because it’s something from the school. However, the person who approved the poster should be confronted.
02:03
This is an art school, if I like AI, is used to create art, which is what we humans are trying to do. It’s a little insulting.
02:13
Administrative assistant Jay Myers said the event is held at the beginning of each semester, offering a variety of breakfast options.
