Between the Allianz and T-Mobile Stages, lesbian festivalgoers at Lollapalooza threw and tackled each other into the mud at 6:30 p.m. on the third day of Lollapalooza, Aug. 1. Contestants got up from the ground, covered in thick mud from their feet to their teeth. When one was tackled, she stayed down and made mud angels.
The impromptu Lesbian Mud Wrestling event came to be when Indianapolis, Indiana resident Lindsay Perrin saw photos of the festival grounds the day after heavy rainfall, which turned Grant Park into a mud pit.
“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, what a perfect opportunity to have a Lesbian Mud Wrestling event,’” Perrin said. “This would be just a great opportunity to bring people together, I’m sure it’d be fun to watch — it’s my dream to watch.”
Perrin made a post on her Instagram promoting the Lesbian Mud Wrestling event at around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, stating when and where the match would take place. According to Perrin, it went unexpectedly viral, and said that her post got almost 170,000 views.
“I’m always chasing adventure, so any opportunity that I can get to get attention and to just be kind of a legend is something that I strive to do,” Perrin said.
As The Neighbourhood began their first song “Greetings from Califournia,” one contestant took the first step forward and went for the legs of another, tackling them to the ground. Some contestants knew each other, some were complete strangers.
The vibrant, clean clothes that the contestants once had immediately became drenched in mud.
After a few tackles to the ground, a winner was declared.
Perrin had one message for her community.
“Just kiss more girls.”
