In response to the Chronicle’s Oct. 17 article, “Faculty support, educate students on the Israel-Hamas war,” we are advocating for the creation of more peace and support groups for Palestinian-American students. As we know in the news of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian people, “the hate group” Hamas has launched rockets on Israeli citizens and sparked the rumors of potential war. Palestinian citizens call them freedom fighters, while Israeli citizens refer to them as terrorists.
Recently a 6-year-old boy was stabbed by his landlord simply because of who he is. There is a large influx of hate crimes spreading across the city as well. At Columbia College we will not stand for the targeting, hate and discrimination of any group of people based on their religion, race or sexual orientation. There is a lot of hate and war going on in the world and students desperately need a space to debrief from everything.
