Gloomy Day Four brings Lollapalooza to a close

The misty rain and overcast sky continued for second day at Grant Park during Day Four of Lollapalooza Music Festival, but spirits remained high.

“It is actually a blessing,” said festivalgoer Camron Episcopo as he awaited the next set from LA rock band Mt. Joy at the T-Mobile stag.”The rain has felt great.” Episcopo was standing in a semi-muddy field. Lollapalooza staff put bark chips over the park’s muddier spots to help keep the terrain level and accessible.

Artists performing throughout the day shared their gratitude for the crowds despite the gloomy weather. Just as rapper Joey Bada$$ went on in the early evening, the clouds began to part and the crowd got a bout of sunshine.

Sunday’s headliners were Lana Del Rey and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and festivalgoers had to face the decision of who to see as they both played at 8:30 p.m. — on stages about a mile apart.

Episcopo, who flew from Denver for the festival, said he had been waiting since about 1 p.m. to get a good view of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Others were awaiting Del Rey’s set. “I’m gonna cry my heart out tonight,” said Paige Dubbin, who drove from Minneapolis for the festival. “It’ll be really great.”
