Chron TV Host Adriah Hedrick and Executive Producer Ali Brenneman asked Columbia students how the first week of registration went.
Registration began on Nov. 11, with registration time slots given based on completed credit hours. Juniors, seniors and transfer students with more credit hours had the most success getting into the courses they wanted.
This is not a new system for Columbia, but with fewer courses and sections being offered as the college tries to eliminate its financial deficit, some students with later registration times said they were frustrated.

The sometimes dreaded, sometimes exciting registration week started this Monday, Nov. 14th.
0:11
Current students had the opportunity to curate their Spring semester class schedule to their personal interests, their graduation requirements and their field of study.
0:20
Many students, however, found the registration process to not be as easy as they originally expected and hoped it was kind of stressful.
0:28
So I’ve been here all day because I thought it was like, in-person, I didn’t know it was just like an online thing.
0:33
And so I was like, ‘Ok, I’ll figure this out.’ And like I talked to my advisor before and we kind of had like an idea of what classes I was gonna take, but none of them were available.
0:44
So I had to like, improvise at the last minute.
0:46
I got there early, like 12:30 [p.m.] was my time and it was like very late compared to everyone else.
0:51
And like three of the classes that I really need next semester are all full and I’m waitlisted.
0:56
So it was kind of stressful.
0:59
I know one of my classes, it was saying that like, I couldn’t take it because I wasn’t in a fashion minor or major but that’s not true.
1:07
So, I was just like, ‘Well, maybe later, possibly.’
1:11
I don’t know. That was one of the classes and then I got waitlisted for the major requirement.
1:17
And so I ended up mostly doing like, requirements for my minor and core classes. While some freshmen and sophomores found themselves on the waitlist for a lot of the classes that they wanted or needed.
1:28
Some juniors and seniors who had an earlier registration time slot had a little bit more of an advantage at getting the classes that they needed.
1:36
It was a little easier just because my credits kind of had me in one of the earlier slots and I just needed the three classes that I need to graduate.
1:44
So, for me, at least it was a little bit easier, but I did notice the lack of classes from last year.
1:49
So, it’s jarring to see that. I get all of my classes actually and I get like a free day.
1:55
So, like, awesome.
1:56
But I get my, like, good chances because my day was the second one.
2:01
So a lot of classes were, like empty, but freshman had like, a little bit hard because they’re the last ones.
2:07
I mean, in terms of like, what I’m required for my major, I’m registered for that stuff.
2:12
I just need to, like, I also just like, did filled in with random stuff to just, like, make sure I’m like, full time.
2:20
Everything should be good. Springs looking like it’s gonna be pretty easy because I’ve done most of what I need to do.
2:25
So I made the mistake of consist- because I kept dropping classes, like, in sophomore or junior, like, ‘I’m not vibing with it, I’ll drop it off, I’ll pay for it later.’ Now I’m paying for it.
2:36
So like just, just stick with the classes you enroll for, I guess.
2:40
Just don’t, don’t be like me and live in regret. While not all students may be completely satisfied with their current Spring semester plan,
2:49
there’s still plenty of time as students will be adding and dropping classes up until the Spring semester starts
