Students will get a chance to talk with President and CEO Kwang-Wu Kim later this fall during an open forum called “Let’s Chat with Dr. Kim.”
The annual Q&A will be hosted by the Student Government Association from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 in the Student Center Boardroom, located at 754 S. Wabash Ave.
Why it matters: The college administration announced in Spring 2023 that to address the $20 million financial deficit it would need to do four things: increase freshman enrollment, improve student retention, increase net tuition revenue and achieve operational efficiencies.
Since then, the college has discussed plans to increase class sizes, lower enrollment targets and review all the programs currently being offered.
SGA president Tyler Harding said students will be able to ask questions or discuss with Columbia administrators about “how to make the school a better place.”
How it works: Every student, that comes prepared to ask a question, will be able to line up to a podium where they will be able to ask their question and get a response, Harding said. Questions will be answered one at a time to ensure that every student will be heard.
“If we are not able to get to every question, we will collect contact information and the questions of the remaining people and forward them on to administration,” he said.
Harding said it is important for students to go to the forum “because it is an opportunity for students to speak directly with the administration.”
What else: Kim and other members of the administration are holding three other forums. They are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Conaway Center, on Oct. 24 at the Student Center and again on Nov. 14, at the Student Center.
“While the upcoming forums will be faculty- and staff-focused, students are free to attend,” said Chief of Staff Laurent Pernot.
“Let’s Chat with Dr. Kim” will be live-streamed from the Student Government Association’s Instagram.
