This week, eight senatorial seats remain unfilled following the first round of SGA elections last week. These seats have been put up again for elections on Tuesday, September 17th.

The visual arts senator was the only seat open for the academic senators.

Seven seats were open for community senators with only six seats being filled by junior fine arts major, Anna Lara for visual art senator.

First year musical theater major, Danielle Lang for first year senator, senior creative writing major, Paige Johnson for fourth year and fifth year senator, first year musical theater major Charlie Rush-Reese for LGBTQIA+ senator, junior arts management major Fei Hong Guo for international student senator and junior graphic design major Trinity Sutton for student diversity and inclusion.

Senator, all SGA senators will begin to train for their new roles as well as preparing for town halls that will be held throughout the semester.

“The organization of the town halls will depend on what the community likes and what the senator wants to do,” says SGA President Jenna Davisn. “Previous years, each specific senator will have its own town hall and it can look different for everyone.”

She said, “Either it’s an event where they casually talk about it or if it’s hosted by the senator and let’s say the director of the department or it’s just like a form that would get sent out. The college previously had 15 department senators.

This was changed due to the restructuring of the college, reducing the number to eight senators to represent the eight new schools.

The student representative to the board of trustees, Aja Wright, advocates for the student body directly and will lead meetings to discuss campus specific topics such as health care, access, improving support for students with disabilities and connecting alumni with students.”

Each of these initiatives is designed to address critical needs within the student community ensuring inclusivity, equity and access to essential resources.

She said a short election will be held by the SGA before their next meeting.
