0:14: This week on Tuesday, October 22nd students lined up on the first floor of the Student Center for Columbia’s Reg fest event that is held each semester to offer guidance on class schedules ahead of the next semester
0:25: Of the nine academic advisors, two were in attendance to help students build their schedules for the spring 2025 semester, Columbia Central also had a booth at the event so students could get assistance on any potential holds on their accounts.
0:41: The 2025 spring course schedule will be available for students to see on November 4th with registration starting on November 11th.
0:51: With only two advisors available there was a significant wait to complete a checklist that gave students access to a free lunch as well as a chance to enter a raffle for one of six $500 scholarships.
1:01: This year, students are navigating through a major change in the core curriculum with more potential changes to come as programs are visited and reorganized under the new administrative school structure, the number of core credits that is required for students to take has been changed from 40 to 32 and has been put into effect this fall
1:20: RegFest will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day through Thursday, October 24th,
1:26: with information booths for international students and scholarships.
1:32: In other news, on October 15th, the SGA held an event where the Interim President and Ceo Jerry Tarrer spoke to more than 40 students to discuss the recent financial challenges of the college.
1:44: Tarrer said that he is only expected to be in the position for a year.
1:48: So his vision for the college is more focused on current problems rather than the future of the college.
1:53: He emphasized that his five major focuses for the college included maintaining a creative curriculum, ensuring adequate student support, handling the college’s finances and engaging with students and staff and supporting the brand.
2:09: Due to the number of changes made to the college,
2:11: this event was held much earlier in the semester.
2:14: While in the past, this event would typically be held around the registration period.
2:19: SGA Executive Vice President, Amelia Lutz said that this event is very similar to the annual let’s chat event that had been held in recent years.
2:29: Students wanted to press Tarrer on decisions and measures that the college would take to deal with the financial challenges.
2:35: Students were allowed to ask questions in order to take full advantage of the hour and a half event.
2:40: That’s all for this week.
