The New Music Ensemble played student compositions Wednesday night, Dec. 11 to a mostly full Sherwood Recital Hall at 1312 S. Michigan Ave.
Music Professor Sebastian Huydts, a pianist-composer, directed the ensemble. Ellen Winters Reynolds, a part-time instructor in the School of Audio and Music, directed the Jazz/Pop choir, which also performed.
Winters taught the Jazz/Pop Choir course this fall on Monday and Wednesday nights while Huydts taught the New Music Ensemble course. Both met on Monday and Wednesday nights.
The New Music Ensemble was created in 2000 as an ensemble for classical and third-stream music. Since 2018, under Huydts’ direction, the ensemble performs music created for and by its performers and composers in any style for the instruments available, including the computer.
