The Chronicle’s Carlos Alanis-Avila was near the race course on Saturday, July 5, when the NASCAR Chicago Street Race kicked off with a qualifying race and then The Loop 110 NASCAR Xfinity Series race. Shane van Gisbergen won the pole for Sunday’s Grant Park 165 Cup Series race. Van Gisbergen also won Saturday’s Xfinity Series race from the pole.
