Early voting started in Chicago on Thursday, Oct. 3 at two locations in downtown: the Chicago Board of Elections office at 69 W. Washington St. and at the Loop Supersite located at 191 N. Clark St. More locations will follow for all 50 wards on Oct. 21.
The Loop Supersite had 100 voting booths, and the board offices had 20.
Kathleen Hayes, a Chicago resident, was one of the many early voters that voted at the Loop Supersite. She voted early “to ensure my vote gets counted,” she said, adding that it “feels good to know that it’s already in.” She also hoped to encourage others to vote early. “I’m all for democracy, integrity and honesty,” Hayes said.
Stefano Lombardi and John Philbin were among the other Chicago residents that went to vote early at the Loop Supersite. They both were excited to vote in this election since Lombardi had just become a U.S. citizen last August.
“I believe all of the things people are saying…about how important an election this is,” Philibin said.
Lombardi said voting is “very important for the democracy of this country.”
Voters can cast ballots through Election Day on Nov. 5 at the Loop Supersite and through Nov. 4 at the Chicago Board of Elections office.
It’s not too late to register to vote. Residents can register at any early voting site and on Election Day.
