Columbia Votes has hosted several events leading up to the 2024 election. Their most recent event, “Dance for Democracy,” invited students to experience several styles of culturally inspired dance on the fifth floor of the Student Center on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
The event followed suit with its theme of civic joy, an idea that connects communities through various engaging events to encourage a civic duty, in this case, voting.
The event was led by BeMoved dance instructor Jennifer Edgcomb, who introduced a fusion of culturally inspired dances, and Faculty in Residence Wilfredo Rivera, who instructed students with Latin Jazz. The two were invited to lead the dances by Sharon Bloyd-Peshkin, the creator of Columbia Votes.
