Little Village Environmental Justice Organization ‘toxic’ education

By Cristina Aguirre

The Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO) works with the community to improve environmental conditions around the area. The Chronicle takes you on one of their Toxic Tours in Little Village, where they educate people about the toxic presence lurking in their backyards, as well as an insight of The Crawford Coal Generating Station, 3501 S. Pulaski Road. It’s one of Chicago’s only coal-burning power plants besides the Fisk Coal Power Generating Station, 111 W. Cermak Ave., in Pilsen that is under pressure from local organizations, the Clean Air Act and a city-unique proposal all aimed at enforcing stricter regulations on their emissions.
