Concertgoers become ‘Sick of the Silence’ after seeing Mother Mother perform at Radius

Mother Mother had fans in Chicago pondering the big questions and passionately singing along in East Pilsen Friday night.

Fans of all ages could be found enjoying Transviolet’s music as they performed the first set of the night while opening for Mother Mother, as concertgoers crowded inside Radius, 640 W. Cermak Road, a large open venue that can host thousands of fans.

Transviolet played a mix of electronic-infused pop, starting the night off with “Bloodstream” before transitioning into “Devils.”

The band energized the crowd in anticipation of the performances to come.

Vundabar followed, playing a funky blend of alt-pop. They largely performed songs from their second album release “Gawk.” They opened with the first song on the album titled “Chop.”

As a part of their set, Vundabar brought a theatrical flair, freezing unexpectedly in the middle of their songs and then continuing with the same energy they brought before. Vundarbar also performed their hit song “Alien Blues.”

Mother Mother started their set with fans screaming the lyrics to “Verbatim,” a song that largely deals with the stereotypes of gender, and what is traditionally desirable in femininity and masculinity. Mother Mother then transitioned into “O My Heart” about a lost relationship.

“Bit by Bit” from Mother Mother’s 2012 album “The Sticks” was played third. The song deals largely with a fantasy of escapism and wanting to leave society and live in the woods.

After “Bit by Bit,” Mother Mother performed “Infinitesimal,” a song that ponders the largeness of the universe.

Mother Mother also mashed up their songs, performing “Body of Years” with a cover of “Creep” by Radiohead.

Mother Mother will continue on its tour through the early spring. Tour dates can be found on the band’s website, and you can follow them on Instagram and Twitter.
