Chloe Moriondo arrived in Chicago just in time for the fall weather, but it was warm in the venue fans’ bodies were packed together near the barricade to get the best view of the up-and-coming singer as Moriondo performed an energetic pop set to promote their album “SUCKERPUNCH” last weekend at the House of Blues Chicago, 329 N. Dearborn St.

Moriondo, who was signed to the Fueled By Ramen label in late 2020, is a newcomer in the music scene. But you would never know it with the amount of crowd support they had, with supporters clinging to every word.

Fans cheered when Moriondo came onto the stage in a white, sheer dress and silver Moon Boots. They sang their very catchy, fun song titled Popstar” to open up the set. The track was very reminiscent of early 2000s radio hitslike a 2022 version of Britney Spears, who also happens to be called out in the song. They followed that up with a performance of the track “Knockout,” which is a similar bubblegum pop song.

“SUCKERPUNCH” as an album takes on a hyperpop blend, a departure from Moriondo’s previous, more alt-pop sound. “Hell Hounds,” from their previous album “Blood Bunny,” stood out as a clear example of this, with vocal effects taking on a distorted, autotuned sound and a fast-paced beat. It switched the set up, and huge applause followed the performance of this track.

Moriondo also performed a cover of the hit Lady Gaga song “Paparazzi,” which brought fans arms in the air, chanting the lyrics.

For Moriondo’s encore, after their third outfit change of the night, they performed their songs “Fruity” and “I Want to Be With You. For “Fruity,” they brought opener Dreamer Isioma to dance around the stage with their crew.

Dreamer Isioma, who headlined Manifest in the spring, warmed the Chicago crowd up for Moriondo. Isioma knew how to hype up the crowd, going around the stage as if at 90 miles an hour. During their set, Isioma performed their viral hit “Sensitiveto much fanfare.

Moriondo created a comfortable space where everyone could be themselves and just listen to music. The impression they left on their fans is sure to last.

Chloe Moriondo will be touring through the winter. Tour dates and tickets can be found here.
