Students wore costumes ranging from witches to celebrities at Columbia’s Enchanted: Witches and Warlocks Ball on Friday, Oct. 30.
Hosted by the Student Activities Office, the event featured Halloween-themed games, music and a mocktail bar.
It was the last major event of Wicked Week, Columbia’s annual late-October campus Halloween celebration organized by the Student Programming Board and student-led clubs.
Antoine Bufford III, a senior marketing major and an event coordinator at the Student Activities Office, said he drew inspiration from other Wicked Week events and Halloween movies featuring witches and enchantments. He wanted to branch out and host a game night.
“I was motivated, being a part of the Student Activities Office, to bring students in, make them feel a part of this school,” Bufford said.
Students competed in teams of four in activities such as wrapping a teammate in toilet paper to create a mummy and tossing cotton balls into buckets resembling jack-o’-lanterns.
The event also featured a mocktail bar, where Missy Karavas, a first-year photography major, volunteered as a bartender.
“I’ve been having a grand ol’ time with guests, talking to them, and doing my little bartender job,” Karavas said.
William Edwards Jr., a first-year illustration major dressed in earthy tones and layered clothing, said he was drawn to the event’s witch and warlock theme.
“I really like the witches and warlocks part,” he said. “My friends tell me I dress like a warlock, so I thought, you know what, I might as well go.”
