Early afternoon on Wednesday, campus security ushered students, faculty and staff out of Columbia’s 33 E. Ida B. Wells Dr., after an alarm sounded due to a gas leak in the building.

Students were allowed back into the building around 1:50 p.m., after Peoples Gas arrived on the scene and told to resume “normal operations,” according to Campus Security’s latest email to the Columbia community.

The Columbia community was directed to go to the corner of East Harrison Street and South Wabash Avenue until the premises were deemed cleared.

As students, faculty and staff were ushered out of the building, security personnel said that this is not a drill.
