June 6, 2018
The Chronicle’s new management team has been selected, setting the organization up for an expansion in daily digital publication and continued success with its weekly newspaper during the 2018-2019 academic year.
The team officially started June 4 and includes veteran staff members Editor-in-Chief Ariana Portalatin, Managing Editor (Digital) Molly Walsh, Managing Editor (Production) Lauren Carlton, Managing Editor (News Operations) Blaise Mesa, Design Director Samantha Conrad and Ad & Business Manager Micha Thurston.
Portalatin previously served as Campus reporter, Campus editor and managing editor; Walsh served as Campus reporter; Carlton served as Copy editor and Copy chief; Mesa served as Metro reporter; and Conrad served as graphic designer. Thurston previously served as media sales representative and is returning to her role as Ad & Business manager.
Candidates were chosen after an extensive application and interview process. Interviews were conducted by various members of The Chronicle and Communication Department, including Chronicle Faculty Adviser Len Strazewski, former Assistant Faculty Adviser Stephanie Goldberg, General Manager of Student Publications Christopher Richert, Communication Department Chair Suzanne McBride, Associate Professors in the Communication Department Curtis Lawrence and Jackie Spinner and members of the previous management team.
Strazewski said the new team’s experience and enthusiasm will set an exciting pace for growth and innovation.
“The new management team reflects the best traditions of The Chronicle,” he said. “And their experience will help lead the growth of The Chronicle as a news organization, committed to covering everything related to our campus audience.”
The management team has several goals for the upcoming year, including increasing multimedia and social media content and continuing the organization’s award-winning print publication.
Richert echoed Strazewski’s sentiment about the upcoming year.
“It is an honor to work with such talented students who dedicate their time and energy into this award-winning brand,” Richert said. “They will pioneer a new chapter within The Chronicle by leading us into a 24/7 news operation.”
The Chronicle is continuing to hire positions in reporting, editing, graphic design, photography, videography and marketing for the Fall 2018 Semester. The application can be found on The Chronicle’s website.
