Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke appeared in court Jan. 29 for a status hearing for the murder of unarmed teenager Laquan McDonald.
Protesters gathered outside the courthouse to express their concerns and feelings regarding the alleged cover-up of a video that showed Van Dyke shooting McDonald 16 times. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez allegedly delayed the release of the video that sparked national outrage.
Van Dyke has pled not guilty to murder charges and will next appear in court March 23.
