Legendary author and Chicago radio broadcast personality Studs Terkel died on Oct. 31 at his North Side home at the age of 96.

The Chronicle attended a book signing in January at the Chicago History Museum. Hundreds of people ventured out into the below-zero weather to wait in line to meet Terkel and hear him speak at the event. Attendees were even more delighted as Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.) showed up to meet the author and have his copy of Terkel’s novel, Touch and Go, signed.
