Food Truck Summit raises awareness

Rain and hail poured onto the tent, where hundreds of Chicagoans stood holding paper cups filled with meatballs, munching on cupcakes and standing in line for enchiladas, all of them there to support the growing food truck industry in the city. Despite the weather, by the end of the night, most of the food trucks sold out of their food.

This was the scene at The Food Truck Summit held at Goose Island Beer, 1800 N. Clybourn Ave., on April 19, which was geared toward bringing awareness to challenges faced by the food truck industry. Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel said on March 1 he would favor changing the Mobile Food Dispenser Law that prevents food trucks from cooking onsite and handling food onboard their vehicles. The Chronicle’s Assistant Health & Fitness Editor Katy Nielsen talks to a few of the food truckers.
