The Columbia Chronicle’s Sex Study

In January 2015, a New York Times contributing writer detailed how she fell in love. Instead of recounting a movie-worthy story of fate, Mandy Len Cantron fell in love through a scientific study. Psychologist Arthur Aron claimed he could make two strangers fall in love through 36 questions and by simply staring at each other in the eyes for four minutes. The study, “The Experimental Generation of Interpersonal Closeness: A Procedure and Some Preliminary Findings,” led Cantron and many others to find the person they believe is their soul mate. The Chronicle asked two willing staff members to recreate the study and answer the question Will two young adults fall in love if they follow Aron’s protocol? Watch to see some of the questions and to see if these two fell in love!
