In response to Editor’s Response: Martin Bernstein’s Dec. 17, 2017, Letter to the Editor
January 29, 2018
To only address one point in my letter, i.e. the lack of a response from Diana Vallera regarding the number of votes for the strike—which prompted your “What’s really going on?” comment—seems a bit tepid, disingenuous.
If the numbers were not forthcoming by the time of your publication, you could have simply stated that, rather than implying some nefarious scheme.
I appreciate your support for the P-Fac union, but nowhere has it ever been stated or even implied, as in your latest editorial, that
“…claiming a new contract can guarantee students smaller classes, more resources, or lower tuition is wrong.”
We’re quite aware that there are no guarantees, even those of our previous contract, many of which have been disregarded and are the basis for numerous lawsuits.
Demands for working conditions such as smaller class sizes, more resources or for lower tuition are a starting point for negotiations going forward, nothing more or less. Please try to be more factual [and] discerning in your language.
Thank you.
