A 41-year-old South Side resident has been arrested and charged with felony criminal sexual abuse in a Sept. 9 incident involving an unidentified female Columbia student, according to the Chicago Police Department’s Office of News Affairs.

The offense, which took place at approximately 2 p.m. at the Theatre Center, 72 E. 11th St., was detailed in a Sept. 10 Campus Safety Alert sent to students, faculty and staff.

The man charged in the incident, Steven Carmona, was out on bond in an unrelated case involving voyeurism at the time of the Columbia incident, according to multiple news outlets.

“[The suspect] spoke to the student and then made inappropriate contact with his hands on her upper body through her clothing,” a Sept. 10 campus security email read.

Carmona has no affiliation with the college, according to the Sept. 18 Campus Security Alert.

A spokeswoman for the college declined to comment on the charges.
