Actor Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon on the award-winning musical drama TV series “Empire,” came to Columbia for a Q&A, titled “Do Black Actors Matter,” Feb. 12 inside the 1104 S. Wabash Ave. Building. During the event, which was hosted by Columbia’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, Smollett shared his thoughts on season two of “Empire,” being gay in Hollywood and the differences between Black Entertainment Television and the Oscars.
