0:18: The semester has very nearly fully wrapped up now.
0:21: For today’s episode, we’re gonna be sticking to our roots and shining a spotlight on three end of semester related showcases happening across campus.
0:28: These are events where students get to finally show off the work they have been building these past few months.
0:34: Today we’re diving into 3 standout showcases you don’t want to miss giving your support to.
0:39: Our first showcase is the new music ensemble in concert.
0:42: Today, December 10 at 7:30 p.m. the new music ensemble will be hosting an end of semester concert.
0:48: This isn’t your typical classical program.
0:50: It’s focused on contemporary works, experimental pieces and student-driven arrangements.
0:55: You will hear music that blends many types of genre and highlights what can happen when talented performers and composers collaborate.
1:01: Music you hear is composed by the same students performing.
1:04: It’s a great rotation of new music with an interesting flair.
1:07: Just even attending this event is providing immense support with the bonus of hearing original and thought provoking work live.
1:14: Even if you are not a music major, it’s a refreshing break from the usual routine and a great show of the innovation we love to see here on campus.
1:21: Again, this event runs today, December 10, 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the 1312 South Michigan Avenue Recital Hall.
1:29: Like all other events I’m going to be covering today, your attendance means the world to everyone involved, so go.
1:35: The second showcase I’ll be covering is the 46th animation Program screening.
1:40: This screening is a yearly showcase of student animation, ranging from 2D shorts to 3D sequences to experimental and mixed media.
1:47: This specific screening will contain an APS montage and the screening of three animation production studio films at various stages of production.
1:55: This event shows the growth of animators finding their voice and style, ideas that can only exist within
2:00: the medium of animation are extremely intriguing and fun to see unfold.
2:04: Events like these often lead to collaboration, inspiration and overall appreciation of how much time and dedication goes into each individual frame.
2:12: The 46th animation program screening will take place on Thursday, December 11, on the eight floor of 1104 South Wabash at 6:30 p.m. The final showcase I’ll be covering today is the CGC cinematography screening.
2:26: The CGC cinematography screening is happening on December 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 1104 South Wabash Avenue, room 504.
2:34: This screening is all about sharing your visual work with your peers and giving positive feedback to others in a supportive space.
2:40: Whether you are just showing something you shot or coming purely to watch, it’s a great way to see what other cinematographers across the film department have been building all semester.
2:48: Anything from lighting tests to short films can be shown.
2:51: This opportunity to witness real reaction and be part of a community that promotes creative growth is huge.
