0:17: On today’s episode, I’m taking a step back from everything else happening to simply promote your involvement in Columbia’s specific events occurring within the next week.
0:26: Here at Columbia, we have a wide variety of different activities for you to choose from, from relaxing with the arts to learning necessary skills, CCC has it all.
0:35: So, grab a snack and listen in as I cover three engaged events you should attend.
0:41: If you have an opening between 10 p.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow, October 23rd, the School of Film and Television is hosting a master class with award-winning filmmaker James Choi.
0:51: During this session, James will be covering his newest film before the call, an hour-long exploration of identity, duty, and belonging.
0:59: In this process, students will be able to learn more about the post-production behind films of this level, specifically touching on editing techniques for anyone wanting to learn more about Adobe Premiere.
1:08: This event will take place at 1104 South Wabash Avenue on the eighth floor.
1:12: All attendees will also receive a free voucher to the Chicago International Film Festival, which runs until the 26th of this month.
1:19: So if any of this piques your interest, which it should, try and make it to this class.
1:24: Do you self-identify as a creature of the night, a spooky ghost or ghoul, perhaps a vampire?
1:29: If you answered yes, then this just might be for you.
1:32: On October 23rd, the Board Game Club is hosting a Halloween-themed special gathering.
1:36: Attend the fifth official meeting of the year dressed in your best costumes and enjoy playing a variety of both classic and newer games.
1:43: This brings an entertaining and festive atmosphere perfect for the spooky season.
1:48: Whether you’re returning or joining for the first time, it’s an undeniably fun event that welcomes all.
1:53: This meeting will take place in the fourth floor lounge at 64 South Michigan Avenue between 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
2:01: Lastly, defense comes in many different ways from physical awareness to de-escalation.
2:06: Understanding how to guard yourself is extremely important.
2:09: So are you interested in learning the fundamentals of self-defense?
2:13: Columbia’s self-defense workshop Kickass is taking place at 12 p.m. Friday, October 24th on the fourth floor of 618 South Michigan Avenue.
2:21: This class will be hosted by Mark Britsovich, our coordinator of wellness, athletics and recreation.
2:27: A methodology for how to stay safe in a city with nearly 3 million people.
2:31: These skills are long lasting and will carry with you throughout your life.
2:35: Fostering greater personal safety has never been so important.
2:38: The session is limited to 20 people, so make sure to RSVP soon before space runs out.
