This week on Three C’s: Senior Vice President and Provost Marcella David sat down for an exclusive interview with the Chronicle on Feb. 7. Here are the top three takeaways from the interview that you should know.

0:29: Senior Vice President and Provost Marcella David sat down for an exclusive interview with the Chronicle on February 7th.
0:38: Here are the top three takeaways from the interview.
0:43: David called the recent academic overhaul a necessary refresh.
0:47: The college restructured academic departments into eight schools for Fall 2024.
0:53: In December, the Board of Trustees voted to eliminate or consolidate nearly half of Columbia’s majors.
1:00: Going forward, the college will offer 33 undergraduate degrees and seven graduate degrees.
1:07: The overhaul is estimated to save $5 million.
1:11: The college is currently facing a $17 million deficit.
1:15: In January, 23 full-time faculty were laid off as part of the restructuring process.
1:22: David also explained the new student information system that the college is implementing.
1:28: The new system will consolidate student information, the degree audit system, scheduling, admissions and financial aid all into one place.
1:37: The Chronicle previously reported that some students expressed confusion and frustration while registering for this semester’s classes, especially since there were cuts made to the college advising center.
1:49: David believes that the new information system will address these issues and improve communication between advisors and faculty.
1:58: Regarding her own future at the college, David said that she has no plans to leave Columbia under a new president.
2:05: She said that although she might have to step down as provost, she would like to stay at Columbia in some capacity.
2:13: David has been provost for 6 years.
2:16: She’s also a professor in the School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
