TRANSCRIPT:
0:08: Welcome back to the Chronicle Chronversations.
0:10: I’m your host, Aaron Guzman.
0:13: This week on Chronversations, junior reporter Uriel Reyes takes us through his review of the new adaptation of the Snow White film.
0:22: The film has undergone many adaptations and is based off of the 1939 Disney film, as well as the original fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm.
0:31: This film adaptation is live action, differing from the original Disney film, which was completely hand drawn using traditional techniques.
0:40: To start off, what are your general thoughts on the film?
0:42: My general thoughts were it did as intended where the purpose of this new version was to just be a live action remake to follow the rest of the recent Disney movies where it’s just been remaking or the animated stories into live action with CGI and actual casts
0:58: As well as having more musical numbers and my thoughts about it is that it did what it was supposed to do, just be a remake and yeah, it really impressed me with the special effects and everything.
1:07: And do you think the live action aspect takes away from the story or do you think it portrays it well?
1:13: Is it true to the original?
1:15: It actually is.
1:16: The last time I saw the original animated one was when I was 6 years old and to prepare for this one I decided to just watch it again.
1:23: And then so I watched the animated one, you know, I mean there was like a few like changes just to modern, make it more modern.
1:29: But yeah, everything, most, most of, most of the things in this live action version worked as they were supposed to.
1:35: Now what are some of the strongest points that this film succeeds at and what are some of its weakest points?
1:41: Some of the strongest points would have to be like the musical numbers.
1:44: Sure, we have the classics like “High Ho” which is, it’s the song where the dwarves are singing singing along and it was almost identical to the original one and besides that they had more modern musical numbers like originals for this version.
1:59: Such as the romantic one between Snow White and the Love Interest, and those were the strong points was that all the musical numbers they they served to intensify the scenes and they were really catchy.
2:10: The only like weak point will have to be at the just like the.
2:14: Special effects surrounding the dwarves, which is like one of the, to my understanding was one of the controversies how instead of hiring like actual short actors they just CGI dwarfs and while the entire like movie like the special effects they’re like it’s in the realm of fantasy while it fits and it’s as real as it could be it’s just the effects of the dwarves it could have been better.
2:36: Now, do you think the film lives up to the negative reviews and the controversies, or do you think it’s more successful than previous adaptations that we’ve seen in the past?
2:45: It’s as successful as the previous adaptations.
2:48: The controversies were really more over the press tour to promote the movie.
2:51: The movie lives up to the expectations, so like the standards of that were set by the previous live action movies that came before, but going back it’s just that aspect of the dwarves being being CGI rather than actual actors that just kind of takes out of the experience.
3:07: Now what do you think sets this adaptation apart from the others?
3:11: Just how they introduced the love interest in the original one it’s simply a prince that shows up and then rescues Snow White whereas in this one, the prince is actually a bandit.
3:24: He’s part of a ragtag team of bandits who they just try to get resources which the love interest is role it’s.
3:31: Almost akin, like similar to Flynn Ryder from the animated Tangled movie from 2012, and that is like the difference that instead of like it just being, “oh hey, here’s the prince comes out of nowhere saves the princess” in this version, the love interest has like a purpose where it’s just like gathering resources for the rest of the team he has more to his story.
3:49: More character depth, yes.
3:52: That’s all for this week.
