Off the Blotter

Pansies stealing pansies
According to police reports, 75 to 100 yellow and blue pansies were stolen from the Washington Street side of City Hall between April 17 and 20. All of the plants stolen were planted between April 16 and the morning of April 17. No suspects are in custody.

Overcharged, under arrest

A TCF Bank customer verbally threatened to go to the 1224 S. Wabash Ave. branch and shoot all the tellers on April 22, according to police reports. The male suspect was upset because he was charged a $35 overdraft fee. The suspect called the bank’s number and was directed to a representative in Minnesota, who later notified the TCF manager in Chicago. The offender was then taken into custody.

Not so sexy trip
A Craigslist.com prostitute traveled from Fresno, Calif., to Chicago on April 17 to meet customers. An undercover officer posed as a customer and agreed to meet with the 23-year-old prostitute at the Congress Plaza Hotel, 520 S. Michigan Ave. They verbally agreed on sexual activity and a $300 price, according to police reports. Once the prostitute handed the undercover officer a condom, he called for backup. The prostitute was transferred to the 18th District police station.

Stealing from the library
On April 21 a male offender passed all checkout points at the Harold Washington Library, 400 S. State St., to check out library books, according to police reports. When he passed the book sensor detector, the alarm sounded. When asked by security if he had any books, he pulled from his coat Brad Ferguson’s
Star Trek: A Flag Full of Stars. The offender openly admitted that he stole the book because he owed money on his library card.
