Letter to the Editor

Re: Topping the charts

I would like to clarify that Columbia is not paying me the salary that was reported on Dec. 1 in The Chronicle (and which has been reported each year in The Chronicle).

For the past 19 years, I have had grants amounting to $6 million to work on different science projects during the summer when faculty are not on contract with Columbia.

One additional point to note is that in most other institutions of higher education, you will typically find among the highest salaries the names of star faculty who have received national and international recognition, as well as grant money, for their work.
